Peaks and Valleys, Part 2

Why me? Why you? The answer is this…your life is not your own. You were not created for you…you were given the gift of life on this earth for some finite period of time…with a purpose to fulfill your destiny…not necessarily according to your plan, but without a doubt…according to God’s purpose for your life. God’s plan for your life always involves Him calling out to you, pursuing you, affecting you…in wild and crazy ways! If it wasn’t sometimes wild, crazy, unexplainable, unprepared for…how would you know it was Him…guiding, directing, and redirecting your path? Here’s a newsflash…You are not in control of your destiny. He is. You can choose not to believe it, but it won’t be long before something strange, even mysterious happens to you…again. Good or bad, most likely…it’ll be Him…causing it or allowing it to happen. When it does…He’ll be speaking clearly. Sometimes softly…sometimes loudly…of His presence and desire to keep you on the path of His purpose and destiny for your life. Will you be listening? My prayer is that you will be reminded and encouraged in those times of how “out of control” you are, yet how incredibly “in control” He is.

And when you tell others about of those crazy, unexpected happenings in your life, they will often be compelled to drop everything and listen. It’s those experiences that can and should become your opportunity to tell someone about how you were given just what you needed to fight through the struggles and how you were given more than you needed when you hadn’t done anything to deserve it. When you are willing to do so, others will be encouraged not to give up hope…to continue to fight…to believe in the One who declared, “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.”

It’s a strange, but powerful principle…when you tell someone about how He provided protection and strength through your struggles…or of His incredible greatness in your times of victory. And how your destiny is being fulfilled…because He’s in control even when you don’t feel like you are! Your life, when shared with someone else, can be the very thing they need to gain the strength to fight another day.

So…the next time you think you’re in control…and then later you’re reminded of just how “out of control” you really are…I pray that you remember that your life is not your own…and that to deny this truth not only slows your progress towards the fulfillment of your personal destiny, but also limits the value of your effectiveness in the world around you! You are here for Him…and for them…so go tell someone about the crazy things He’s doing in you and around you…and don’t be so surprised when He does the next wild thing in your life!

Verses to review:

James 1:2-4, “Consider it all joy when you encounter various trials knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” (NAS)

Jeremiah 29:11, “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. (NAS)

Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to Me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty thing, which you do not know.” (NAS)

Ephesians 3:20-21, God can do anything, you know - far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. Glory to God…” (MSG)
