Dirty Laundry

The LifeStrategy Group discussions the last two weeks have been much “deeper”, for lack of a better word.  That shouldn’t be any real surprise I suppose, given the nature of the topic.  Don’t let the thought of “deeper” scare you out of the benefits!  I spoke with a friend this past weekend who told me that he was not very comfortable with the idea of coming to our meeting to “air out his dirty laundry”, so to speak.  He, of course, has not participated in this series yet.  He went on to tell me how a lot of the issues that we are addressing are exactly the things he is struggling with in his life right at this very moment!  He even agreed with me that he should be involved and has been reluctant because of his concerns.  It made me think that some of you might agree with him and think that we’re sitting around in a big circle, holding hands, and crying while we tell each other about all of our deep dark secrets. Sure, a few guys have shared some intimate details, but our dark sides are still remaining relatively…dark…for now!  And we don’t cry much…yet.

Hey, if anyone wants to tell us about their darkness, that’s perfectly fine!  This white boy has no problem hearing about your darkness!!  But no one ever feels pressured to “spill the beans” until someone wants to, if ever, spill his beans!  However…please allow me to lead you to another Bible reference.  The good news:  It’s in our weakness (humility), that God provides the strength we need to get back up and keep fighting for healing and success in our marriages, in our relationships, with our addictions, with our lives!  It’s the direct result of our willingness to “encourage one another” and to “share each other’s burdens” that God lifts us up and out of many of life’s most difficult and challenging circumstances!  Here’s the bad news: God “resists the proud”.  We, as men, have got to get over the lie that we’re too macho or cool or “manly” to get involved in something that challenges us to listen and learn from God and each other!
