Are You Better Than Him?

More than ever, I am convinced that men must get committed to openly and consistently discussing critical life issues we’ve been talking about! I read headlines on Friday about one of the most prominent Christian leaders in our country who has participated in a secret life of sexual immorality that he’s been “warring with for most of my adult life” while pastoring one of the largest and fastest growing churches in America (14,000 members). He admitted to being a “deceiver and a liar” to his followers and described this “part of my life as repulsive and dark”. Since 2003, he has been the president of the National Evangelical Association, which includes many of the most prominent Christian denominations in the country.

Question: Are you better than him?? I hope your answer is an emphatic, “no way!” Certainly none of us can say that we’ve done more to promote the gospel of Jesus Christ, Godly living, or service to those in need than this man!! Is he a “sheep in wolves clothing”, or is he a man like David, who God called ”a man after [my] own heart”? Yet in the midst of great success, David committed adultery and murder while going through a lonely, secret time of his life. ”…the thing that David had done was evil in the sight of the LORD.” There were major league consequences for David’s poor decisions. Avoidable consequences. Are you living a secret life, separated from God? Have your decisions led you to the brink of disaster? Like David, are you making choices that will lead you to what looks and feels like “hell on earth” if the trend continues? Or are you doing the necessary things to be drawn nearer to God? If not, the alternative can be pretty ugly. At the risk of sounding overzealous (as if it’s not too late already!), because of the Biblical foundation of the topics and the openness of relevant discussion, MOVE’s LifeStrategy Group meetings can provide you with a huge step in the direction of being “drawn nearer to God”….if that’s really what you want!
